Named after the famed explorer Meriwether Lewis (who died and is buried there), Lewis County is located approximately 70 miles southwest of Nashville and is part of Nashville’s Big Back Yard. This natural watershed region is made up of 12 connected communities that celebrate the small-town atmosphere that America was built upon, and Hohenwald does not disappoint on that front.

History
Meriwether Lewis died just outside Hohenwald at the site of Grinder’s Stand. His visit and subsequent death helped put Lewis County on the map. Today, history buffs can walk in the same final steps of the famed explorer on the historical Natchez Trace Parkway, visit his gravesite at the Meriwether Lewis Monument, and learn about many other local historical facts at the Lewis County Library & Archives.

Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor enthusiasts are likely to find what they’re looking for (and then some) in Lewis County. Take a refreshing dip at the picturesque Buffalo River Blueway, escape the daily bustle at the Thousand Trails Natchez Trace Campground, or stroll the green at The Course at High Forest (formerly the Hohenwald Municipal Golf Course).
